I went on a Sew Confident course last year to make the Hovea jacket and, long story short, I cut out fabric for one of the options that we weren’t doing in the class (there’s 5 variations and I chose one that wasn’t quilted)!
I was really keen to make another one though with some fabric I’d been lusting after for ages from Merchant and Mills.

I’d had a busy few weeks at work and saw that there was still 1 or 2 spaces left on the last Sew Confident retreat so I booked a last minute space and decided to take the quilted jacket (the original!) as my project for the weekend!
The Retreat was great! They had to change the venue at late notice to the Dunblane Hydro but it couldn’t have been a more perfect place to host it- we had a big event room for all the machines and loads of space for us all to be laying and cutting fabric out on the floor!
I had such a good weekend! There was a lovely bunch of people and everyone had a completely different project(s) they were working on.
We arrived on the Saturday morning, set up and started to sew, had a break for lunch then got back to sewing until shortly before dinner. Dinner was fab and we all had a few drinks/cocktails in the bar in the evening!

I had brought my swimming costume and planned to go for a swim in the morning but woke up with a headache (not due to too many drinks!) and decided on an extra hour in bed instead!
I almost finished my jacket over the 2 days and only had a bit to finish but many people finished their projects with some making more than one!
I chose the Merchant and Mills green ikat for the outside and a bright pink to match for the lining. I didn’t want the jacket to be as structured as my last one and wanted it to have a slouchy dressing gown feel so I just quilted a few lines to a thin wadding but didn’t quilt directly to the lining.
I wanted to get flashes of the pink so added an extra 2 ties so there’s 1 pink and 1 green on each side. The pink is visible too if you roll up the sleeves slightly.

The pattern was just as easy as the other variation although I did need a bit of help to work out how to sew in the lining. I just about finished it over the 2 days with a few wee bits of hemmimg to do at home. It’s so comfy (almost like wearing a duvet!) and it had it’s debut down to the office the next day as I was flying down to London for a few days. Couldn’t resist a photo infront of the news box!!

Could definitely make this pattern on repeat but keen to try another jacket pattern- The Sapporo which is already in my stash!
